Good evening everybody (wow, that sounded awkwardly professional…)
How are we on this fine Saturday? It’s by far my favourite day of the week, and as soon as it’s Saturday night, I begin the countdown again until next Saturday… workin’ for the weekend for sure! 😉
Today it was an absolutely perfect Summer day here in Sydney, and Ally and I obviously had no choice but to take advantage of it; throw on some bikinis, and of course an unnecessarily oversized hat (I may or may not have thrown that one in there so my mum didn’t have a heart attack and scream, “sun protection!”) and head down to Coogee beach.
This is always our go-to beach, we don’t even discuss it, if the word “beach” is ever mentioned we just end up straight down at Coogee. Some weird, best friend telepathic connection? I think so. Seems legit. 🙂
Sadly there was a pretty crappy turn of events, and when we arrived, the sun basically said something along the lines of “quick, they’re coming! I’m going to randomly disappear, haha. God I’m hilarious.” and sun, no more!
We’re not laughing, sun, we’re not laughing.
But it was all good, we ended up just chatting on the beach in what was left of the Aussie summer day, and then we headed for lunch at Globe cafe.
Globe is a gorgeous little cafe, and has the most amazing food. There’s a massive selection of wraps and sandwiches, which made this sandwich-wrap-obsessed girl extremely happy, some great salads, and the star of the show and clear winner: a brekkie menu till 1pm, because we all know breakfast is too fantastic of a meal to not eat all day repeatedly. So win-win!
It’s almost like it caters for giants, as the servings are crazy supersized! I could probably wrap myself up in the tortilla of my wrap… but that could also be because I’m a 5 foot 2 midget. Either way…
I chose the veggie wrap, with olive tapenade, artichoke, basil pesto (where can I get me some of that?!), sundried tomato and spinach. It was perfectly toasted and just perfect, full stop.
Ally’s salad was overflowing with pure happiness and joy, which also goes by the name of haloumi, apparently.
This is new to me…
Anyway, I snuck a bit of happiness (this ‘haloumi’ stuff..) and as always, it pretty much exuded rays of sunshine.
After, we went to the local shopping centre, and hit up Health Foods, an awesome health food store. I was originally looking for some protein powder as I’ve run out, but they didn’t really have any of the brands I know, or they were about 20 litres of the stuff in a barrell, with big, scary letters saying, “GET BUFF! GROW MASSIVE! GET SHREDDED!” which I can’t say was really my thang, not gonna lie.
I did, however, get me some 100% almond butter, FINALLY! In the health/fitness blogging world, nut butters are absolutely worshipped like Gods, and I’ve heard good things about almond butter.
And can I tell you, it delivered! I’ll definitely be having it with my toast and banana, or on my oats in the mornings. 🙂
Speaking of oats, also conveniently the love of my life, I’ve been keen to give overnight oats a go lately.
I usually am a bit of a creature of habit/really, really boring, and stick to my quick oats that I pop in the microwave while half asleep every morning.
I’ve been seeing this whole overnight oats thing, were you mix all the ingredients in a bowl, cover in cling wrap, and put them in the fridge to set; all ready for the next morning.
This is such a genius idea, as it means the prep work for brekkie is cut down completely! Which is such a good thing, when you’re mind is only semi-working/you forget how to even hold a spoon that early.
It’s then as easy as whipping them out of the fridge, and topping them with your all-time favourite things:
My go-to toppers are always chia seeds, bananas, mixed berries, almonds, walnuts or yoghurt (..or you could just go all out and put them all on, and be rolling around all day rather than walking!)
I’ve never tried topping them with a nice, big blob of nut butter, so I’m determined to give that a go tomorrow morning.
What’s your favourite way to eat oats?
Have you tried overnight oats? What did you think?
Or are you more of a pancake person? Or both, like moi. Not even ashamed. 😉
And because I’m such a generous, amazing person, I’ll leave you with some oats porn.
You are welcome.
(Not taking any responsibilities for the intense cravings that may result)
